Hannah Grace Keeton Bake Sale, September 25, 2004
With 100% effort from the loving, generous people of Staunton and its surrounding communities, the bake sale for the family of Hannah Grace Keeton was a huge success. So many people put forth an effort to give their time, donate baked goods, and give monetary donations, as well as their continued prayers and emotional support for Hannah’s family. God blessed us with a beautiful day for the sale, which I am sure Princess Hannah herself must have had a hand in. With the sun shining so bright above us, it was like she was smiling down at us with that heart-stealing smile of hers and giving us the perfect weather for the event.
Together, we were able to raise $1000 for Terry and Cindi Keeton. There was additional money taken in for a raffle drawing for the Home Depot pedal car donated by McKay Napa Corporation. $89 was taken in for the pedal car that will be awarded on Oct 22 at the Staunton McKay Napa location. Raffle tickets will be available until that time in the Staunton and Litchfield McKay Napa stores, as well as Radio Shack in Staunton. Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5.
I would like to thank the following people for donating their time to help out on the day of the sale. My father Perry Maguire of Hillsboro worked extremely hard with setting up for the day and was at my beck and call for whatever I needed, as was my husband Jamie Rezabek. Dottie Heeren spent the whole day at the benefit and was an absolute blessing, doing whatever needed done, helping keep everything under control, and selling bunches of raffle tickets. Natalee Zweig of Glen Carbon and Carolyn Brown of Worden also donated their time and their efforts are very appreciated. Judie and Jacob Ashbaugh helped out with the cleanup and did a very thorough job. We also had the help of four very special young ladies, Emily and Sarah Perrine, Becky Stratman, and Ali Patzius. What a super group of girls! They worked so hard to sell raffle tickets and doing whatever else we asked of them. They should be very proud of their efforts. Thanks to all of you so much! We couldn’t have done it without you!
I would like to say thank you to the following people who donated baked goods and other items: Lois Blevins, Blanche Martin, Dottie Heeren, Kim Rhodes, Carolyn Brown, Dawn Colley, LaVaughn Pavlotich, Evelyn Deppe, Edie Vietch, Everett Crouse, Lila Riggs, Sara and Emily Perrine, Joann Buckner, Sylvia Newingham, Natalee Zweig, Linda Sievers, Kelly and Kailynne Cruthis, Laura Sigman, Becky Fritz, Jeanne Struebig, Joyce Gwillim, Michelle Boothe, Shelly McCalla, Doris Vallow, Sandy and Georgia Mullen, Cathy Haeffner, Alhambra Care Center, Rhonda Corby, Jack and Dawn Gockel-Jones, Barb Mullen, and a special thank you to Erin Massey for her hard work as an excellent young baker.
Monetary donations were made by Carole Scheller, Ruth and Everett Rogier, Chuck and Joann Buckner, and Lonnie Bosnak. A substantial monetary donation was made from the Lois McBride Foundation. Many people donated money anonymously. Thank you so much to everyone.
Many items were raffled off at the sale and raised a good amount of money. Mike Pernicka of Staunton was the winner of the 50/50 drawing worth $30. Karla Bononi won the glass ornament donated by L.K. Glass of Mt. Olive, Michael and Stephanie Johnson won the coupon donated by Darren Ashbaugh for $50 off a tattoo, and Dylan Haeffner won both the DVD player AND the crock pot! What a lucky little guy! Thank you to everyone who donated prizes.
I would also like to thank the businesses who helped in various ways. Jim’s IGA donated tons of soda, Casey’s General Store gave 20 bags of ice, and Krispy Kreme of Fairview Heights donated 5 dozen donuts and offered the other 10 dozen at a huge discount. Thank you to Pat and Bob of the Crystal Ballroom for allowing us to use the tables, to Jim McKay and Dave Stamer of McKay Napa Corporation for the use of their van for the day, to the newspapers in Staunton, Gillespie, Livingston, and Vera of the Madison County Chronicle for printing and promoting the bake sale throughout September, to the First Christian Church of Gillespie for their support and continuous promotion, and to Madison Communications for advertising the event on our local channel 12. Thank you to radio station KSLZ 107.7 for donating a bag of prizes and thank you to the hundreds of businesses who allowed us to post flyers for the event. We couldn’t have been so successful without your cooperation. A very special thank you goes out to the City Council of Staunton for allowing us to use Library Park as our location. This helped add to our success as well, being so easily accessible and visible.
Thanks to everyone who came out and bought at the sale. People were so nice and thoughtful, as well as generous. It makes me proud to say I am from Staunton to know that I am surrounded by such wonderful people.
One final thank you goes to Kole Rhodes of Livingston who celebrated his birthday on September 25. Kole asked that instead of gifts, that everyone make a donation to Hannah’s benefit fund. What a generous and amazing little boy! Thank you for having such a kind and giving heart Kole Rhodes.
If anyone was left out, I sincerely apologize and thank you from the bottom of my heart. We have an amazing group of people who did all they could and I am so proud of everyone. God bless all of you, and most of all, God bless the Keetons. You continue to stay in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers.
