Recently, I received a letter from Cardinal Glennon asking for our presence at a Memorial Service for the children who died this past year. Even though Hannah did not die at Cardinal Glennon they considered her one of their own ... as did Hannah and I.

The service is tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel. I am going to try very hard to be there. Terry says there's no way he can ever step another foot in either Cardinal Glennon or Children's Hospital. Lisa has play practice and I know she can't be there. Shelly, Paige, Colin, Diana and Karen Webb will be there.

I'm not requesting your presence, but did want to let you know in case you wanted to be there.

I am sending along some memories of the good days at Cardinal Glennon. My personal favorite is the one on the very bottom, it shows Hannah's true love of life in her smile. On this particular day Hannah was still in the hospital after having had her back to back major surgery ... then complications arising from that surgery. One could never tell looking at her precious face though. This is how our angel lived, always with that smile that told the world how much abundant love and happiness was in her heart.

I miss her so much ... life without Hannah seems impossible for me. Terry is dealing with her loss on the inside so one doesn't see much. Lisa is beginning to loose the "anger" and is now showing signs of devastation and Brian is Brian, pretending that life is normal. Papa Keeton was doing good considering, however, like Lisa he is starting to show more signs of depression.

Thank you for your prayers, I keep waiting for things to get better. God Bless you all.

Love, Cindi

A TRIBUTE TO CURESEARCH DELIVERED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

On October 8th, 2004, Congressman Jim Saxton (R-NJ) delivered a tribute to CureSearch in a speech in the House of Representatives. Congressman Saxton is a supporter of childhood cancer research and submitted our Labor Health and Human Services appropriations request. The speech appears in the Congressional Record. Below is the text of the speech Congressman Saxton delivered:

TRIBUTE TO CURESEARCH

[Page: E1931]
SPEECH OF
HON. JIM SAXTON
OF NEW JERSEY
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2004

Mr. SAXTON. Mr. Speaker, I rise to commend CureSearch for the admirable work it does to fight against childhood cancers, the number one disease killer of children in the United States today.

CureSearch, a coalition between the National Childhood Cancer Foundation and Children's Oncology Group; which is comprised of over 5000 children's oncologists around the country, is on the frontlines of our nation's war against childhood cancer. Their efforts are making a considerable impact upon the lives of children who have been diagnosed. CureSearch's work has enabled more than 77 percent of those diagnosed to survive these diseases. This is dramatic impact considering that forty years ago childhood cancer was almost always fatal.

Certainly, this is an improvement, but we are still not doing enough to prevent children from dying of cancer. The fact that cancer still kills is proof enough that more research is crucial to eliminate these terrible diseases.

A cure for all children fighting cancer is within our grasp. By further developing the Federal partnership with CureSearch and increasing funding for research, we can eliminate these diseases within our lifetime. By uniting to fight childhood cancers, soon there will be a day when every child with cancer can be guaranteed a cure.
